ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY WITH CONTRAST

This test is similar to the conventional Doppler echocardiogram, but the patient receives a non-iodinated contrast agent through an IV.

The contrast is made of microbubbles that, when reached by the ultrasound waves, emit an echo signal much more intense than the blood, which allows to visualize the interior of the cardiac cavities and enhance the Doppler signal.

This procedure makes it possible to see the structures of the heart and blood vessels with much greater definition when the conventional technique is not conclusive.
